IREM International is a global professional organization which is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of employees who participate in the organization’s activities. IREM International is recognized internationally as an organization which promotes occupational health, safety and wellness for its members.
The mission statement of IREM is “To improve the quality of the lives of occupational health and safety practitioners and to enhance the occupational environments of all workplaces.” The organization works with its member occupational health and safety practitioners to develop health, safety, and occupational training curricula. Members of IREM work closely with the IREM International Health Committee and the IREM International Institute of Occupational Health & Safety to ensure that these programs are tailored to suit the needs and interests of practitioners and the occupational environment. The programs include training modules designed for health and safety managers, occupational therapists, nurses, physical therapists, and other occupational health and safety professionals.
Members of IREM International are encouraged to pursue an advanced degree in occupational therapy, nursing or any related field. There are many opportunities available to practitioners in these fields. Most programs require a minimum of two years of study in order to qualify. There are several programs offered to trainees in basic, intermediate and advanced courses.
Program offerings at IREM International vary. Courses include courses such as nursing, occupational therapy, and occupational medicine. There are also clinical studies in various settings. The programs offer a variety of study opportunities such as clinical rotations, on-the-job training, distance learning, and online studies.
IREM International has a long list of accredited organizations and agencies for its members. These include the Occupational Therapy Association, the National Association for Occupational Safety and Health (NASS), and the American Occupational Therapy Association. {OATA). The organization has also been recognized by the Occupational Health Certification Board of America (OHCA). as an organization that is responsible for professional practice standards for occupational therapy.
IREM International also has a number of national and regional programs that provide continuing education to its members. These include Continuing Education for Occupational Therapy (CEOT), the National Practitioner Continuing Education Program (CPEP), the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLE) and the National Registry of Examiners for Occupational Therapy (NREO).

IREM International is affiliated with the International Health, Safety and Training Institute (IHSTI), the Association of Occupational Therapy Accrediting Bodies (OATA), and the International Occupational Therapy Association (OATA). IREM International is recognized by the United States Occupational Therapy Association (OATA).
The staff of IREM International strives to enhance and improve the quality of life of its practitioners through education, research, and association. Its primary objectives are to provide continuing professional development for its members and to maintain its certification status with the National Board of Examiners for Occupational Therapy. and the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPODB). The staff also publishes journals and other publications that focus on the practice of occupational therapy.
IREM International is also committed to providing access to its members to resources that facilitate learning and development. These resources are available in a variety of formats and can be accessed through the IREM International website. Some of the resources available include books, videos, webinars, audiovisuals, audio and online tools and reference materials. The webinars provide a forum for learning from the point of view of occupational therapy.
The OA journal entitled, Occupational Therapy Knowledge is a peer reviewed publication that provides a unique forum for teaching, research, and discussion for IREM International. members. The Journal provides an opportunity to interact with IREM International members in a casual, non-formal fashion, which allows practitioners from around the world to exchange ideas.
The organization also offers a journal that provides reviews of journals and books by and about IREM International. to give practitioners a means to communicate their experiences and discuss topics and concerns. that are of interest to them.
